Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry

If you suffer from dental anxiety, you’re not alone. The Academy of General Dentistry puts the number of fearful patients in the US at 25 million. Receiving proper treatment to prevent and treat dental problems can improve your overall health and your quality of life. Avoiding the dentist puts your oral and whole-body wellbeing in jeopardy.

In the Park Cities, anxious patients have found an ally in Dr. Lindley. He understands dental anxiety and offers an effective way to alleviate fear. With safe, effective sedation dentistry, Dr. Lindley turns fear into relaxation to let patients undergo the dental work they need for the smile they deserve.

The doctor offers a variety of sedation dentistry methods, including:

  • Nitrous Oxide: Inhaled through a nasal mask, nitrous oxide (commonly known as laughing gas) elicits calm feelings of warmth and safety. The effects of the gas diminish quickly upon removal of the mask, so you can return to your daily activities right away.
  • Oral Sedation: A sedative in pill form taken prior to your appointment puts you in a state of complete relaxation. You’ll be awake during your dental procedures, but you won’t remember them following your appointment. Because of the relaxing effects of oral sedation, you’ll need someone to drive you to and from your appointment. Expect to resume normal activities that same evening.
  • IV Sedation: This deep form of sedation involves the use of sedating medications delivered directly into the bloodstream via an IV. An anesthetist with proper training and monitoring equipment is utilized for all IV Sedation patients. After you enter a relaxing stage that often called “twilight sleep,” Dr. Lindley will perform your dental work. You’ll emerge gradually from IV sedation and will need someone to drive you home after your appointment. Most people report getting back to their regular routines the following day.

You’ll be closely monitored throughout your sedation dentistry appointment, and we’ll explain what to expect when you leave our office. Sedation dentistry makes time fly. It also produces an amnesiac effect, making you forget all about treatment details. Dr. Lindley may perform several procedures during a single sedation dentistry session to complete your dental work in as few visits as possible.
